STATUS
Completed June 2025
Project Overview
Nisga’a Lisims Government (NLG) developed a custom economic model to measure the Nation’s direct, indirect, and induced impacts. The model tracks indicators such as GDP, employment, labour income, and tax contributions.
This provides evidence to support negotiations, policy development, and long-term planning.
“This work supports our broader monitoring efforts to assess the Nation’s socio-economic impact as significant industrial developments unfold in the Northwest.”

Case Study Highlights
From 2019 to 2024, NLG’s operations generated nearly $2 billion in economic activity and contributed $760 million to the region’s GDP.
Every $1 NLG spent led to $2.83 in economic activity and $1.14 in added value for the region.
The project created a well-documented custom regional I-O modelling method.
This method can be adapted and applied by other First Nations, establishing a framework that extends beyond NLG.
The project stands as a blueprint for how BC RIGC can foster high-quality, Nation-centered research.
"It underscores the significant economic contributions regional self-governments and Nations make to local communities and regional economies."
